Mljet
Mljet (Latin: Melita, Italian: Meleda) is the eighth largest island in Croatia, at the same time the southernmost and the easternmost of the larger Croatian islands, over which there is a hiking transversal route along its entire length: MPO – Mljet Mountain Bypass with 33 KT (control points) and Dnevnik and a guide.
It is located in the immediate vicinity of Dubrovnik, Korcula, the Elaphite Islands, and is separated from the Pelješac – Ston peninsula by the Mljet Channel.
The coast of Mljet is very indented, while the northwestern coasts of the cadastral municipality of Goveđari from 11.11 stand out. In 1960, the National Park “Mljet” (St. Mary’s Island in the middle of the Great Lake with the Benedictine monastery and the Little Lake, Lastovska and Pomena bays, and the bay and archaeological site of Polače with a shipyard, a castle, thermal baths, two basilicas, villae rustica, the largest palace on the Adriatic after Diocletian’s Palace in Split) and the southeastern sandy coast (Saplunara).
